Amy and Power Have an Adventure

Cathy, Doug, Amy and Reba

KeDiOs Armani’s Power in the Blood (POWER) is the first puppy we whelped here at KeDiOs. He popped out with no trouble at all and as we were clearing his nose and mouth licked my husband on the face. He has been Doug’s baby, lap dog, and constant companion ever since. Power is a very large sheltie, about 19 inches at the shoulder. Agility is his thing. He is very smart, athletic, focused, will do anything Doug asks him to do, and gives those border collies a run for their money. Fast and agile, Power can easily clear a 6 foot fence as if it was not there. He opens doors, drawers, crates, gates, you get the picture. We call him Houdini. You think we would have seen this coming, but in our defense he had stayed with Amy before without incident except for pouting and looking sad. We were totally surprised when we got the late night call that Power had jumped 2 fences and disappeared. We were in Illinois, visiting family before leaving on a winter vacation. We dropped everything and headed for Des Moines, about 6 hours away. We were very surprised when we got a call on route from a very pregnant (with twins) Amy.

She said that she was out with some neighbors and family and could find tracks in the snow but no Power. She thought he was circling her property (about 10 acres) looking for us.   We asked her what she was doing out in the middle of the night, in the snow, in her condition. We told her we would soon be there and were sure he would come when we called him. Amy had ideas of her own however, afraid that Power would leave for Minnesota, she continued to look for him. It was soon apparent that, in good sheltie form, he was circling the property. Amy got some treats and in her best “Cathy” imitation started yelling “cookie”. Power came charging out from his hiding place and got to within 10 feet of Amy before realizing she wasn’t “Cathy” and coming to an abrupt stop. Fortunately they were able to catch him before he could take off again. Needless to say he spent the rest of the time in an indoor kennel. A very tired Amy gave us a call and we turned around just in time to make it back to St Louis for our morning flight.
